Custom Notebooks: MOQ, Cost & Lead Time

Custom notebooks in bulk typically cost $1.70–$4.70 per piece, and — unusually for this industry — they carry no minimum order. The three things that move the price are the cover material, the binding, and how you decorate the logo. Page count and paper weight are close behind.
Here's what actually drives the number, so you can plan a run rather than guess at one.
What you're paying for
A custom notebook is four components, and each one has its own cost band:
| Component | Options | What it does to price | |---|---|---| | Cover | Kraft, PU leather, linen, hardcover | The single biggest lever — kraft is the cheapest, hardcover the most expensive | | Binding | Saddle stitch, spiral, perfect-bound, elastic closure | Spiral and hardcover cost more than stitched | | Paper | 70–100 gsm, white or cream, lined / dot grid / blank | Heavier paper and higher page counts add up fast | | Decoration | Foil stamp, emboss, screen print, 4-colour print | Foil and emboss cost more per piece but look far more premium |
Cover material: the first decision
- Kraft — the economical workhorse. A natural, recycled look that suits eco-positioned brands and trade-show giveaways. Takes a single-colour foil or screen print well.
- PU leather — the premium default for corporate gifting. Soft-touch, wipes clean, and looks considerably more expensive than it costs.
- Linen — textured and understated; popular for hospitality and design-led brands.
- Hardcover — the top of the range, usually paired with a ribbon bookmark and elastic closure. Used for executive gifts and welcome kits.

Decoration: where "branded" actually happens
- Foil stamping — a metallic (gold, silver, copper, or Pantone-matched) logo pressed into the cover. The most common premium finish.
- Embossing / debossing — a raised or recessed logo with no colour. Subtle, tactile, and often the cheapest premium-looking option.
- Screen print — flat colour, best for bold single-colour logos and larger artwork.
- 4-colour print — for photographic or multi-colour artwork wrapped across the cover.
A single logo usually keeps decoration to a small share of unit cost. Full-cover artwork, or a logo on both cover and back, pushes it up.
MOQ: why we can say "no minimum"
Most notebook suppliers quote a minimum because they job out the binding and printing. We don't — so a run of 50 behaves like a run of 5,000. That matters if you're:
- testing a new cover style before committing to a full program
- assembling new-hire welcome kits, where quantities follow headcount, not a production schedule
- producing event-specific runs where over-ordering is dead stock
- personalising notebooks per recipient
If you're ordering at volume, the per-unit price still falls — but the entry point is low rather than punitive.
Lead time and sampling
| Stage | Time | |---|---| | Digital mockup | 24 hours | | Physical sample | 5–7 days | | Bulk production | 2–3 weeks | | Shipping | DDP to your door, duties included |
Sampling matters more than usual here, because foil and emboss behave differently on kraft versus PU — the same logo can look sharp on one cover and muddy on another. Approve the finish on your actual cover material before committing to the run.

Bulk, wholesale and "premium": the three things buyers actually ask for
Reading the search terms people arrive with tells you what they're weighing up:
- "custom notebooks bulk" / "wholesale custom notebooks" — buyers comparing unit price at volume. Ask for a tiered quote at 500 / 1,000 / 5,000 pcs; the curve flattens quickly because binding and decoration are the variable costs, not paper.
- "custom notebooks no minimum" — buyers who need a small, specific run. This is the case a low-MOQ factory is genuinely better at than a large printer.
- "premium custom notebooks" — buyers competing on perceived value. Here the cover does the work: PU or linen with foil beats a large printed logo every time.
Frequently asked questions
How much do custom notebooks cost? Roughly $1.70–$4.70 per piece, depending on cover material, binding, page count and decoration. Kraft covers with a single-colour foil sit at the low end; hardcover with ribbon, elastic and embossed artwork sit at the top.
Is there really no minimum order? Correct — no minimum. You can start with a small run to test a cover and finish, then scale.
Kraft or PU leather — which should I choose? Choose kraft for cost, an eco story, and high-volume giveaways. Choose PU when the notebook is a gift and perceived value matters. If you're unsure, sample both — the difference in hand-feel is obvious in person.
How long does a bulk notebook order take? Sample in 5–7 days, bulk production in 2–3 weeks, then DDP delivery to your door.
Can you match my brand colours? Yes — Pantone-matched foil and print, plus custom paper, page count and closure options.
Can notebooks be bundled with other items? Yes. Notebooks combine well with tumblers and tote bags into welcome kits and corporate gift sets — we can produce and pack them as one shipment.
