The most common question B2B buyers ask before anything else is about Christmas sweater MOQ — the minimum order quantity. The short answer: 100 pieces per design.
The part that surprises people is what "per design" actually means. It does not mean 100 of a single color in a single size. It means 100 total pieces across one design — and you can split that across sizes and colorways freely. A run of 100 could be 5 sizes × 4 colors × 5 pieces each, and it still counts as one design.
Why there's a minimum at all
MOQ isn't arbitrary. It's the break-even point of two fixed costs that don't care how many pieces you order:
- Yarn minimums. Mills sell yarn in cones and lots. Ordering a custom-dyed color below a certain weight isn't economical for anyone.
- Machine programming. Charting your pattern and programming the flat-knit machine is a one-time setup cost. Whether you knit 10 pieces or 1,000, that setup is the same. Spread it over 100 pieces and it's a rounding error; over 10 pieces it's the entire price.

How MOQ is counted
This is where buyers either save money or accidentally double their minimum. The rule:
- Counted per design — one motif, one chart. Split sizes and colors inside it as you like.
- A new design = a new MOQ — a reindeer sweater and a snowflake sweater are two separate designs, so each starts its own 100-piece count.
So the practical question is never "can you do 100 pieces?" — it's "how many designs do you want?" Two designs means 200 pieces total, not 100 split two ways.
Using a 100-piece MOQ to test the market
A low MOQ is a risk-management tool, not just a number. Here's the play:
- Order a 72-hour sample of your design.
- Post it on Instagram/TikTok or your store's pre-order page.
- Gauge demand from real engagement before you commit capital.
- Order 100 pieces to launch, then reorder bigger if it sells.
The alternative — ordering 5,000 pieces blind and hoping — is how buyers end up with dead stock and tied-up cash. A 100-piece minimum lets you prove demand first.
What if you genuinely want fewer than 100?
A few honest options:
- Merge designs. Two similar motifs can sometimes be combined into one chart, so they share a single MOQ.
- Use standard yarn. Stocked colors and yarns ship faster and don't carry a custom-dye minimum.
- Order earlier. Peak-season (Q4) factories protect machine slots for larger runs. A 100-piece order placed in spring has far more flexibility than the same order in November.

A 100-piece order moves through our Dalang floor the same way a 1,000-piece order does — 72-hour sample, approval, 2–3 weeks of bulk production, then shipping. The MOQ doesn't change the process, only the setup-cost math. Plan your bulk order by early September and a 100-piece test order is comfortably on shelves before December.
